Shaun Black Named Senior Team Lead at HFA Architecture + Engineering

Bringing nearly three decades of industry experience to his role, Black has played an integral role in developing the MEP team at HFA, specifically supporting one of the firm’s largest retail clients.

HFA Architects + Engineers recently announced an addition to the senior leadership structure supporting Walmart, the Bentonville, AR-based retailer, and one of the firm’s largest retail clients. Shaun Black, who previously served as Electrical Team Lead at HFA, has been promoted to Senior Team Lead.

Black has worked at HFA for more than 14 years but brings nearly 30 years of hands-on electrical experience to his role. He has a Master Electrical License in Arkansas and has worked on various projects throughout his tenure at HFA, including retail (new construction and remodels), restaurants, and fueling station projects.

“Over the past 14 years with HFA, I’ve witnessed firsthand how the industry has evolved—with a growing emphasis on energy-efficient MEP systems, renewable energy sources, and strides to reduce our carbon footprint—alongside the growing importance of fostering deeper client engagement and cultivating stronger relationships,” said Black. “Throughout this time, HFA has consistently adapted to meet the changing needs of the industry, all while maintaining a high standard of client interaction that drives growth and long-term partnerships. It’s been a rewarding journey, and I’m proud to have been part of it.”

Black’s nearly thirty years of electrical experience and a diverse background spanning construction, distribution, project/program management, and client engagement allow him to bring a truly collaborative approach to his projects, fostering growth. This well-rounded perspective helps him lead his team through thoughtful designs and consistent qualities that align with clients’ goals.

“I’ve had the privilege of working alongside Shaun for many years, and it’s been gratifying to watch his growth and evolution into the leader he is today. From day one, he’s brought a level of commitment, thoughtfulness, and reliability that has consistently raised the bar for those around him. We’ve been through challenges, tight deadlines, and big wins together, and through it all, Shaun has remained steady, focused, and always ready to step up when it mattered most. His promotion to Senior Team Lead isn’t just a reflection of what he’s accomplished; it’s a testament to the character, work ethic, and heart he brings to our team daily,” said HFA Vice President Shane Hevelone (LEED AP BD+C).

Black believes that being empowered by mentors throughout his career had a tremendous impact on his career trajectory and is what he is most passionate about as a leader himself. He strives to continue offering his team opportunities to hone their crafts, allowing them to grow and master their talents.

“I’m committed to continuing to mentor and support our MEP team while fostering an environment where our talent can grow, thrive, and succeed. I’m excited to see what the future holds,” he concludes.
